A New York city perfume salesman Alan Stillman opened the 1st T.G.I. Friday’s® restaurant in 1965, located at First Avenue and 63rd street in New York. The idea was to bring models and airhostesses into the neighborhood, so he bought a broken down beer joint and jazzed it up, creating an authentic and unique atmosphere to the area where the new restaurant was located. Within one week the restaurant was an instant success, being the hottest spot in town.
